Mary (Nonnina) : Artist, Craftsman, Weaver

I love the rhythm of working at my looms, creating and building cloth from strands of yarn; it has its own special magic.

Color, design, and structure on the loom never fail to fascinate and engage me.

My first exposure to weaving was at University pursuing a degree in fiber arts. I’ve been practicing this craft for nearly 30 years. Weaving is meditative; it forces me to slow down my mad dash through life. I love that it teaches me to be in the moment. I love that weaving is one of the oldest surviving crafts in human history, its basic principles of interlacement have been practiced for thousands of years. This connection to ancient humanity as well as contemporary craftsmen sustains my own personal vision of the world.

My Story

What do I weave and why?

My main objective is to make things that are functional and have beauty.

Products must be able to stand on their own as useful; and it is essential that they also be beautiful.

We are visual creatures. What we see has an impact on every level of our perception. I want my creations to evoke visual joy, invite you to touch the fabric, and to use the item with pleasure.  My work is about quality over quantity, creating useful products that celebrate living with intention, that align with sustainable living and encourage others to slow down and enjoy the journey.
